Pagosa Springs and Durango

The Navajo State Park lay in between two towns, to the east was Pagosa Springs and to the west, Durango.

Both towns were very nice and catered to the tourist.

Pagosa Springs, as it says in the name had natural springs. The most popular being a big outdoor area connected to the The Springs Resort and Spa - a very expensive fancy hotel.

The outdoor springs were very popular!

The water running down a bank next to a path was boiling and smelly!

If you did not want to pay for a spa you could sit in the pools on the river edge.

The town had a great safety feature for some busy road crossing areas. You pushed the button waited for the yellow flashing light and also grabbed a flag to wave as you crossed making you more visible to motorists. A simple idea that I am sure more towns could use, looking at you Princeton!

Durango was a bigger town with a lot more stores and a busier, lively feeling. We walked around the Saturday morning farmers market but we were a bit late and most stalls were sold out.

There is a famous train that travels from Durango to the town of Silverton and is a five hour journey through amazing scenery. We would have like to go on it but it was too long to leave Morgan so maybe next time.

The ticket and waiting area is original

Of course we found a bakery too and wow was it a good one! We enjoyed a pastry and coffee and brought home a cake and a French stick that were very yummy.

The town and surrounding area are very beautiful and for the first time since leaving New Jersey we thought that if it weren't for the crazy Colorado prices we could see ourselves living there.
