Cars, fog and a tower.

 Saturday 10th December 2022

We visited Wellborn Muscle Car Museum which was listed highly on searches of what to do in the area. If we were more into cars I guess it would have been more fun but the place was small, the cars were all pretty much the same, viewing them was very restricted and it cost $11 each. Someone like our friend Dave Leonard would have had a blast.

The gentleman who gave us an introduction to the museum said two cars were used in a movie called Vanishing Point and one still has the original dirt and bangs. John did a Goggle search, the director claims all the cars were destroyed after filming.

After the very short walk around the museum we drove into Alexander City center but as with many town centers there is not much to see with old store fronts now being used by accountants or insurance companies. Such a shame the small towns of  America are disappearing. 

Sunday 11th December 2022

Had a quiet day as the weather was pretty bad but we did take a drive to a dam. It seems we are destined to visit dams on bad weather days. The Martin Dam is only open to visitors by appointment but we thought we could maybe walk near it. Nope, the nearest we could get to it was at an overlook point and due to the very heavy fog we could not see it. The only glimpse was from the truck as we drove across a road bridge downstream.

Monday 12th December

We visited Smith Mountain Fire Tower, Jackson's Gap. This was a half-mile vertical climb up, followed by a half-mile very cautious climb down. The tower is 80' tall and has quite a history. John climbed up it. Since my ladder fall in June I have not been loving heights so I stayed below with Morgan. The views were amazing.

Afterward we drove into Dadeville, though once again, not much to see - but there was a cool hardware store that must have had some history. They sold all sorts, from farm supplies to saddles to workwear.

Lovely town center but all the buildings were used for businesses such as financial.
