Idaho and Washington

 Saturday 7th October 2023

October had us entering our twelfth month of RV life! Our anniversary will be 6th November. Crazy how fast it has gone and how much we have seen. This stop is our 31st campsite and they are starting to blur so I am glad I have photographs and this blog to look back on.

We had one of our longest travel days so far so we had packed up as much as we could on Friday and early on Saturday we left Montana. John had been up since 5.30am to watch a Sunderland match.

I loved the the small part of  Montana that we saw and would love to return but it would have to be in an rv that could fit in the State campgrounds or go boondocking as I did not like the private campgrounds.

The 350 mile drive took us across the north part of Idaho and we traveled through some beautiful pine mountains and then to open farmland when we crossed into Washington.

Each time we near a state line John says "get ready with the camera, the state line is coming up" so I am usually ready. Sometimes I do not get the picture as we are on a back road and there is no sign or in the case of crossing into Washington they put the sign on the central divide of the highway and I am focused on the right!  So for this trip there is a picture of Idaho but not Washington.

We watched a You Tube of van travelers and each time they crossed a state line they would look what that state nickname was or if it was not on the sign they would Google it. So for anyone interested - Idaho is Gem State and Washington is The Evergreen State.

We also crossed into Pacific Standard Time which makes us eight hours behind England and three hours behind the east coast of America.

Very low clouds for the early part of our drive

For miles we had been seeing old billboards advertising the 50,000 Silver Dollar service stop. This turned out to be one of those quirky places you see on the road. There was a building housing a gift store, a restaurant, a casino and a full bar. In the rear was an rv park and at the side an inn.
On the walls of the bar were wood cases filled with silver dollars that have been donated over the years. The business is called 50,000 but the total increases each year and now they think it's over 70,000.

Idaho is known for its potatoes so I bought a chocolate version.

In the next post I will let you know where this reservoir is but for now you can enjoy the beautiful Fall colors.
