Philipsburg, Montana and Ros's Dream Shop

Sunday 24th September 2023

We took a drive around the area ending up on a beautiful road through a narrow pine tree valley with a river. We did not drive too far down it as it did not have a blacktop and in areas it was very rough driving. The views went from grass hills to pine tree forests, such diverse landscapes in relatively small distance.

 Monday 25th September

John was still on vacation so we took a drive to the nearby small town of Philipsburg. It was very pretty and the historical society had done a great job of marking the history of the town buildings.

In the town I found THE VERY BEST SHOP EVER. Reading this blog you will have worked out I can't walk past a bakery without going in! This love and joy for cakes is nowhere near the love I have for a great sweet shop. In Philpsburg is a shop called The Sweet Palace that has been in business since 1934. The interior of the store is gorgeous, moldings on the ceiling, original wood cabinetry then add in the jars and jars of sweets and I was in heaven.

They make all their own chocolates and taffy. John loved the milk chocolate orange creams which we saw the owner making.

These jars hold jelly beans in more flavors than Honeydukes and the barrels on the bench and sections below the bench have all sorts of flavored taffy.

Fudge

The shop was pick m mix, fill your bag then that would be weighed at the checkout. I saw a few parents with kids closely monitoring them and checking how much was put in a bag! John did not dare monitor me! There may have been a few bags.

We both laughed when we remembered the time John took the kids to the cinema when they were young. There was a pick n mix section at the concession stand and I would let them get a few things in a bag but carefully checking what they chose, some sweets are heavy! One day John took them to see a movie without me. Wow, he said when he returned home, those sweets are expensive, cost me a fortune. Were you not checking what they were choosing? No, they said you let them get whatever they wanted. Yup, they conned you! He was more careful on future cinema trips.
