Harris Beach State Park, Oregon

 Saturday 16th December 2023

This was our last stop in Oregon and it did not disappoint. Ok the weather was still pants and we were lucky if we saw a blue sky or the sun but the scenery more than made up for it.

As it was only 112 miles and check in was not officially until 4pm we took it easy driving down 101. A 4pm check in is far too late, especially in Winter in the northern states when it is getting dark around that time and you need to be able to safely park and set up your rv.

The road followed the coastline with a lot of big inclines and descents and sections right on the cliff edge, some parts with no barriers. Yes I had my eyes closed again for some parts!

There were some pull off sections we could stop at to enjoy the views

We drove a similar section of road in Colorado

We stayed at Harris State Park campsite which we were told we were lucky to get a full two weeks booking as it was always full. That is because I had booked it about six months ago! The park was very busy which was surprising with the time of year and weather and most people were from Oregon.

The park was set up high on a hill and we had incredible views out of the window.

The beaches were ever changing depending on the tides and weather. Some days you could walk  around the rocky outcrops some days you could not get far and with the heavy rains there were lots of streams running down the beach from the cliffs that made the beach impassable unless you had tall wellington boots.

The campsite was set on the side of the hill and we got a lot of incline walks each day going up and down to the beaches. One day we discovered a lookout point at the top of the highest point in the park with views north and south of the coast. We saw some sunsets but with the poor weather there were not too many extra special ones.

Yem seen from the beach road, the pine trees blocked Starlink so we had to rely on cell for wifi

Lookout point

Very high, the cap park below looks very small.

Some days thick mist would roll in and the rocks would disappear

Need to work on the selfies
