My favorite stop so far.......Cape Disappointment, Washington State

 Saturday November 4th 2023

We woke up to more flooding around the rv so that was not fun getting ready to leave. Luckily we had packed up the outdoor bits a few days earlier so it was just sorting the hoses and power then hitching up.

It was a short 138 mile drive so we arrived early and quickly got set up at Cape Disappointment State Park. It's a large park set on Long Beach Peninsula with two lighthouses, beaches and the Lewis and Clarke Interpretive Center. Our site (which I didn't take a pic off) was a stones throw from the beach and we listened to the wild crashing waves for the two weeks we were there.

Remember the broken Starlink?

When we got to the camp we checked our cell service.......zero. This is why we travel with two means of staying connected, if one has no service then hopefully the other does. John plugged the Starlink in and hoped it would work and maybe it had dried out.....nope. So we sat it back in front of the electric fire for the evening and went out to check the nearby towns.

Ilwaco is a very small fishing town next to the park, further up the peninsula was the town of Seaside which butts up to Long Beach you could not tell when driving along the road you had left one town and entered another. They are big seaside towns with tourist attractions including the worlds longest beach. It must get very busy in the Summer but we enjoyed the quiet off season.

Marsh's Free Museum. Known for its Jake the Alligator Man display, this longtime outpost offers funky antiques & curios.

With no cell service we had a decision to make. Stay at Cape Disappointment and John would do his best with work or we moved. The problem with moving was there was very little on offer and we would miss out on the awesome site so John took one for the team and said he would find somewhere in the park he could maybe get a bit of cell service so he could take his early calls and get emails then he would go to Ilwaco town library when it opened at 10am to continue working in the warm. With the time difference to the East coast the majority of his calls begin around 6am so he would go out in the dark and cold and park near the boat launch area and take calls.
The other issue was John was  leaving for three days to go to New Jersey for meetings, leaving on Sunday 12th November and flying back on Wednesday 15th. He was concerned about leaving me with no transport or cell service and we had seen signs about tsunami escape routes and heard the tsunami alert testing they did on the first Monday of the month. I assured him if I had some tv shows downloaded on my tablet, a good book, some cake and the beach I would be fine. I could bike to the end of the park to call him each day so that is what we did.

Biking in the pouring rain to get cell service not so much fun.
